However, villagers may become upset if the player does not return unpaid items in time or otherwise fails to deliver payment for them. The player may start the deal over from the beginning as many times as they want and request the trading NPC of what items they would like in return for their goods. Items with less than roughly 1% the value of the intended purchase will be refused if offered – get around this by offering such items in bulk. If the offered items are inadequate, the NPC will give feedback reflecting how close you are to a satisfactory trade. If the NPC finds your offer acceptable, the trade window will turn green and you will have the opportunity to finalize the transaction or start again. Hirelings must also be compensated in a manner similar to trading before and/or after their service is considered done, by delivering them items. It's possible that the settlement may be in possession of animals which they are unwilling to sell, or they may simply not have any animals. Every villager except the children can sell you any animals they have. If you want to buy an animal, select the "Buy Animal" option from the conversation main menu. If nothing has been picked up, the NPC may offer you an opportunity to barter for items on their person – select “let’s see what I can trade from you” to browse these items. From here, you can barter for any items you have picked up within the the settlement.
